Preseason 2022 and 2022 Applicants

Posted on February 14, 2022

"Preseason was such a fun way to start at St Andrews. I got to meet so many lovely people before university properly started and got to play hockey everyday, what more could you ask for?!"

Each year we run preseason at the University, even through the past two years. As we return closer to pre - pandemic life we want to expand what is on offer for those coming to University. Preseason 2021 was our busiest ever and we hope to make 2022's preseason even better. With 3 men's teams and 7 women's teams in 2021/22 we are on the lookout for incoming students who want to play hockey regardless of their level.

Preseason sees new and current students coming together for training, games and social activities throughout the week. New players are encouraged to come to preseason as much as returning students. Players are split into groups suitable to their ability allowing them to train and prepare for the season which generally starts in early to mid September. Additionally in the past the the club has arranged fitness sessions on the beach, friendly matches against other local clubs as well as coaching and umpiring courses for those interested.

"I liked preseason because I got to meet other freshers and students in older years in a comfortable environment playing hockey. It made joining a team easier as I had already met people"

Incoming students have the chance to either stay with current students or depending on what the University chooses to do, go straight into halls, both are great ways to get to know the club and town before freshers week.

"Preseason was great because of how well we were looked after and welcomed by the older years and our hosts. There were also fun activities outside of hockey like pier jumping which helped me get to know the other freshers!"

By signing up you will be sent information as it becomes available and then connected with players within your skills group ahead of arriving in St Andrews. Preseason is available to all abilities and players will be allocated a relevant group based on the feedback they provide in the form.

All in all, preseason is a great week for new and old students alike. For any further questions you may have please do not hesitate to contact us at and we look forward to hopefully seeing many of you in August or September!
