Summer Camp 2021

Posted on August 23, 2021

This summer saw the slow return to normality continue with our residential camps taking place at the University.

This year we had over 100 players take part across the 3 weeks of camps that were planned. This was the first year that we have split the camps into ability and the feedback received in regards to the split has been extremely positive.

The Elite camp saw over 40 participants attending with the majority of those playing in the Scotland National Age Group teams. Many of the players are still involved in the national pathway programmes and have been playing against Wales and England with many attending the Futures Cup in the next few weeks. The players were a pleasure to work with throughout the week and took part in a variety of on and off-pitch activities, including speed and power testing in the gym with support from the University’s Strength and Conditioning team and a variety of on-pitch training sessions with the coaching team.

The Performance camp had 30 participants taking part over the week with a variety off-pitch and gym based sessions. The focus for those attending was on larger sided games that the players had not been able to play in the last year due to covid.

The Preseason camp had over 30 participants working on the more technical aspects of their game throughout the week. The players also enjoyed a beach fitness session with one of the University’s personal trainers. Across this week the University also hosted Manchester United’s 1st team training and many of the players got autographs and photos with the team.

Despite the restrictions that were in place we had players from Scotland and England attend the camp and while we were not able to welcome overseas participants this year, we are looking forward to seeing the usual participation from overseas players again in 2022. Next year the camps will change format slightly due to The Open being hosted in St Andrews just prior to the camps. This will provide a unique experience for those coming to the camps again next year as the town will be very busy!

The proposed camp dates for next year are as follows:

18th to 22nd of July - The (post) Open camp for ages 13 – 16 – only 4 nights of accommodation due to The Open

24th to 29th of July – Elite Camp for ages 14 – 18

31st July to 5th of August – Performance Camp for ages 14 – 17

If you would like to be added to the mailing list for next years camps then please complete this form. It is expected due to the popularity of the Elite camp and Performance camps that these will both be filled based on an application basis.

Thank you to the coaching team and everyone who attended our 2021 Summer Camps. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2022!
