Preseason 2020

Posted on March 21, 2020

Preseason sign up for 2020 is once again open through the following here! General preseason begins in St Andrews on the 31st of August. For those who wish to attend preseason but will not yet have any accommodation in St Andrews, no need to worry, if you just complete the preseason form and indicate you will need somewhere to stay. We will be trying our best to find everyone a place to stay, placing freshers with older members of the club with spare rooms.

"Preseason is one of my favourite weeks of the year, everyone re-unites after summer and we also get to meet all the freshers we'll be spending the next few years with. Jamie always makes sure we have some hockey to do during the day and then we spend the evenings socialising with dinners and movie nights! I'd recommend anyone to come!"

Preseason last year was a great week enjoyed by everyone so make sure you sign up so you don't miss out on a hockey filled week of fun!

The general preseason programme is open for all levels of ability, with teams being split accordingly. As well as sessions twice a day, the week includes a beginner umpiring course and a coaching course as well for those who wish to become more involved in the club. If you'd like to get involved in these, select the option in the sign up form!

"My favourite part of preseason is the chance to get to spend time with people from all over the club."

Last year a beach session was introduced into pre-season and this will be returning this year with many of those who attended preseason saying it was their highlight of the week!

Preseason allows for incoming and returning students to get back into hockey and begin to form the teams for the upcoming BUCS and Saturday seasons. It gives us all a chance to get back into the swing of things, and increase fitness before games begin again.

“I really enjoyed preseason as it gave me a chance to get to know the hockey team before the start of fresher’s week. It was really nice to get back into hockey before term started and I felt a lot more comfortable at the start of freshers having already met some friends.”

We plan to have lots to do outside of hockey, we are hoping to have another barbecue and social, where there is the chance to socialise with those from other teams!

All in all, preseason is a great week for new and old students alike. For any further questions you may have please do not hesitate to contact us at and we look forward to seeing many of you in August!
