Saints Sport Supported Athlete Update
Posted on January 28, 2019
Emily Dark, one of the supported athletes has had a busy semester alongside starting her first year at St Andrews. After being selected for the GB Elite Development Programme she has travelled to both China and Alicante to play with the squad. Here's what she had to say about her trips:
'In October I travelled to China for a 4 nations tournament with the GB Elite Development Programme (EDP) Squad for 2 weeks. The tournament included GB, Australia, Germany, China & a local provisional team. There was a time difference of 7 hours which was hard to adjust to and it was our first series of games as a team. There were a lot of meetings and video analysis but we improved every game against really tough opposition. We also had the opportunity to go to a Chinese school and coach some young girls who were just starting to play hockey. It was a great experience, especially playing Australia and China as they have very different styles of play to the normal European teams we play.
Over the Winter holiday I went to Alicante for 7 days warm weather training with the GB EDP squad which included Test matches against Ireland. We started off with 2 days of intense training and then played our first game against Ireland, we won 2-1, then 3-0 and on our last day drew 1-1 winning on running penalties. It was a great trip with amazing weather (a welcome break from the Scottish wind and rain) and a good opportunity to get some quality training and matches in.'
Emily will also be coaching this summer at our residential camps. Keep up the good work Emily!
