Our Residential Hockey Camps take place each summer at the University’s sports facilities, where 13 to 17-year-old players from all over the world come to take part in one of our weeklong camps.

After the cancellation of the Summer 2020 camps we are expanding our 2021 programme to three camps over a three-week period, and for the first time introducing a Performance Camp targeting players who have represented their District or County. Additionally we will have an Invitational camp for those playing at the top end of their District, County or Junior International level.

The first residential camp ran at the University in 2017 and was thoroughly enjoyed by all participants. In 2018 and 2019 we continued to build on the success of each previous year and are looking to offer the best camps that we have ever done in 2021.

St Andrews is unique venue for a residential camp due to the size of the town and the facilities that the University has to offer.

If you are interested in hearing more about future camps then please email Jamie Carnegie.

Invitational Camp

Aimed at those players who are aspiring to play at the highest level and continue playing at University. This camp will provide players with high level coaching but also provide participants to develop individually on and off the pitch through social and team building activities.

Alongside hockey training the participants will experience sessions from specialist staff in performance analysis, fitness testing and strength and conditioning.

Performance Camp

Aimed at District or County standard players, our Performance Camp will allow more serious players to improve their game through a mix of tactical focussed training, technical coaching and 11 v 11 matches.

Alongside hockey training the participants will experience sessions from specialist staff in performance analysis, fitness testing and strength and conditioning.

Preseason Hockey Camp

Our preseason hockey camp will be incorporating elements of the performance camp and is aimed at School 1st XI players who are looking to train before going back to school in August. This will include a gym session, 11 v 11 games and video analysis.

While we cannot confirm all coaches in advance as some of the coaches continue to play at International Level, we are lucky to have regular coaches who have been involved in other programmes at the University join us for our camps, as well as various new additions each year.

The Camp organiser is Jamie Carnegie, our Director of Hockey, who also coaches at all summer camps. Jamie has previously coached Scotland U16 Boys and Girls Squads, Scottish Student Sport Representative teams, Won Scottish Hockey Coach of the Year in 2014 and was the Manager for the Men's National Team in 2015.

Team Building

Since the last camp a new climbing wall has been completed and should players want to take part in some climbing they will be more than welcome!

The University will also be delivering other residential camps during the same week as Hockey so if your children do different sports then there may be the opportunity to take part in them too!

The accommodation for 2021 will be in Whitehorn Hall; a mix of single and en-suite rooms with easy access to town and the sports centre. All food for the week is included in the cost of the camp and includes a lot of variety each day. Whitehorn is located 2 minutes from the sports centre and 5 minutes to the town, a much shorter walk than in previous years.
