Performance Sport

As a performance sport, the Saints Hockey programme is designed to encourage athletes in their sporting opportunities and ambitions, whilst still achieving a world-class education

The sports centres major £14m redevelopment and extension was completed in 2017 and has provided the university was access to a vast range of modern and spacious facilities to cater to all sporting needs. These new facilities cemented a major, seven-year investment in sport at St Andrews, bringing our indoor facilities in line with the rest of the estate at University Park and offering our members greater capacity and the opportunity to participate in a far wider variety of sports at higher levels. Over the past two years the indoor sports facilities at the University have been transformed following the construction of a new eight-court sports arena and the refurbishment, extension and modernisation of the original sports centre building. The final phase which involved the construction of a new four-court indoor tennis centre was installed at University Park in 2018, completing the refurbishment.

As a performance sport, the Saints Hockey programme is designed to encourage athletes in their sporting opportunities and ambitions, whilst still achieving a world-class education. The facilities at University Park have aided us in achieving this, by providing access to a full strength and conditioning suite, aided by supervised hockey specific sessions from one of the accredited strength and conditioning coaches. The facilities also allow us to provide players with physiotherapy and injury prevention support, as well as hold regular video analysis sessions to analyse performance.

Our Vision is to create a programme in which every player competes to the highest level, works hard and enjoys their hockey experience at university. With over 200 members, we are one of the largest clubs in the university and proudly cater to all levels of experience as well as provide a vast range of opportunities to get involved.
